1.  Cancellations & Delays

Obviously our club needs snow for our trips, however sometimes Mother Nature throws so much snow that it makes traveling unsafe. Make sure you listen very carefully to the announcements on Wednesday for any updated information about our trip.

**Also check the website the morning of the trip and make sure your notifications are set to On for the BAND APP  for any last minute changes to our plans.

  • If the school cancels or cancels all after school events, then unfortunately that also includes our trip. A make up day will be scheduled.

  • If school is delayed in the morning, then our trip will continue as long as the weather and road conditions show signs of improving. Our equipment drop off time will simply be delayed.

2.  Dress Warm

It is always at least 15° colder on the mountain than at Franklin Regional. Most likely they will be making snow while we are there which also makes the night air feel colder. Dress in layers and bring hand warmers. Be aware that 7-Springs warns that loose articles of clothing such as scarves are Dangerous when getting on and off the lifts.  You can also go into any lodge to get some temporary relief from the cold (Tahoe, and Main Lodge).

** PLEASE DOUBLE (or TRIPLE) CHECK that you have all of your ski clothing before you leave for school on trip days.

** IMPORTANT TIP: DO NOT put your ski clothes in your ski or snowboard bag. These bags will be loaded under the bus and you will not have access to them until you arrive at 7-springs.

3.  The Proper Equipment is Suggested

You must already have your skis or snowboard, Gloves, Coat, Goggles, etc before our first trip. Also be aware that it is now mandatory that club members wear a Helmet for their safety. Good reliable equipment can be rented for the season or purchased from our partners at Peak Ski and Snowboard Center by Boyce Park. **Click the Link for more information.

4.  Storing your Skis and Boards at 7-springs

Skis are stolen all the time. The safest place to store your equipment is in one of the two ski/board checks: under the “Foggy Goggle” by Elmo’s Pit or next to the rental shop. It only cost $2.50 for an IN & OUT pass. However, once again the cost is FREE for any club member on our trip. (You can go in and out as many times as you would like and there is always someone there watching your equipment)

  • Ski patrol reported one year that a school bus from Washington DC area was stopped on the way out of the resort with 100 EXTRA pairs of skis. People will take your skis, Poles, and boards if they are left unprotected!

5.  The Clocks at 7-Springs are Sometimes Wrong

Always have a watch on or a cell phone with you so you know the correct time. It is expected that you are on time for all check-ins. Don’t be late for the Bus!

6.  Always follow proper Ski Etiquette

It is EXPECTED that all skiers and snowboarders read and follow the information on the “Know the Responsibility Code” page.

7.  Only Ski on the Open Slopes & Trails

If 7-Springs closes a slope, it must be for a good reason. So respect their signs, and follow the warnings. Failure to do so could result in the loss of your lift ticket by Ski Patrol and your removal from the club's future trips. (No refund will be given)

8.  Stay on the Slopes you are Comfortable With

Don’t go down a slope just because your friends are (this is how accidents occur) Remember you had to learn to crawl before you could walk, and you will someday be ready for these slopes, but don’t go until you are ready.

9.  Be Respectful of Others

ALL Franklin Regional School Rules apply while you are on the slope. Anyone who breaks these rules will not join us on the future trips and forfeit any money already paid. (Please refer to the Student Handbook)

10.  Never Ski Alone

ALL experts agree that it is extremely unsafe to ski or snowboard by yourself. That is why we work on the BUDDY system while we are on our trips. Pick a buddy (or buddies) to ski with. Mr. Racchini highly recommends have a "Buddy Group" of several people to ski with. This way if some of your group is ready and wants to go down the Black Diamond slope and others would prefer to go down the Green Trail, you can split up into two smaller groups and meet at the bottom. Picking buddies with a similar skill level as you will cause you to enjoy your time on the slopes more. It is always more fun to ski with a group of your friends. Regardless if you have one buddy or a group of buddies, it is EXPECTED that you are to NEVER leave your buddy alone! Failure to do so could result in your removal from the club. (No refund will be given)

Sometimes a person signs up and doesn't yet know anyone in the club. If you don’t have a buddy already in the club, you can:

  • Ask a friend to join with you.

  • See Mr. Racchini and he will introduce you to some people and try to pair you up with others around your skill level.

11.  If your buddy gets hurt...

STAY WITH YOUR BUDDY until help arrives. The worse thing you can do is leave to get help. Instead, flag down another skier and ask them to send the Ski Patrol.

**You should also send a message to Mr. Racchini through the BAND app

12.  If you get hurt...

Try to remain calm and have someone (not your buddy) contact Ski Patrol and tell them that you are with the Franklin Regional Middle School Ski & Board Club and to contact Mr. Racchini. I will check in with Ski Patrol frequently throughout the night for any students, and report there immediately when I am informed of an injury.

**Your buddy should also send a message to Mr. Racchini through the BAND app
